Ada Connection is a family/friends reunion gathering held once every five years in Ada, Oklahoma. It represents a group of people who have served God and lived life together for generations. Its participants are descendants of Forest and Edith Harris who were married May 9, 1912, and their seven children; Vern Harris, Glenn Harris, Ralph Harris, Genevieve Harris Debord Blenkhorn, Nellie Mae Harris Weidenhamer, Patricia Harris Kauffman, Darleene Harris Hemmerling and individuals who are connected to the Harris family through marriage or friendship.
In September 1990, Glenn and Roberta Harris celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Ada, Oklahoma. They invited friends and family from across the United States. Recognizing that the distance would pose travel of a great distance for some guests, they decided to host additional activities the week before and the week after the anniversary celebration in hopes that friends and family could spend some vacation time in Oklahoma rather than coming for just one night.
Several friends and family did just that and reported that they had a great time. Everyone thought it was worth repeating so a committee of local friends and family was formed and Ada Connection was born. The first Ada Connection was held in July 1995 and repeated every five years there after.
Every five years, as many as 200 friends and family converge on the small town of Ada in southeastern Oklahoma.
Today, a local committee of friends and family plan a week of events, allowing friends and family to bridge the distance and get to know each other as well as reminisce about days gone by. First, second, third, and now fourth cousins get to know each other in a way they might never have If it weren’t for Ada Connection.
